Once upon a time I said that I would never get a tattoo on my body. I didn't object to others getting one. They just weren't for me.

Besides I'm allergic to pain. I break out in screaming.

That's why no one was more surprised than I when the idea came to me just a little over a month ago. I was making my "bucket list" and the idea of having a tattoo suddenly seemed possible.

And the time was right. The last few years have found me smack-dab in the middle of several very painful experiences. I am usually pain-averse. But good things can happen when we examine pain in our lives. And through this pain, I remembered something very important that I had forgotten. I thought a tattoo would help me to keep this truth in the forefront of my mind on a daily basis. After all, if it was visible and I would see it every day, I would have to be super, extra dense to not remember. (Yes, I have moments of super density.)

As I pull back from my business, I begin to wonder what would happen if I completely disappeared from the public eye. No, I am not talking about being a Howard Hughes. Not only do I not have his money, but I also don't fly planes. I'm also not certifiably insane. Plus, Leonardo DiCaprio wouldn't be the right guy to play me a film.

But what would happen to someone in the public eye if they ceased to be in the public eye?

Are there REALLY only 14 left at that price?

Someone recently sent me a link to an information product suggesting I look at their sales letter.

It was a typical "make money online" pitch with a well-dressed guy sharing his story of how he went from zero to hero using strategies and methods that he would share with us at the designated price. There was the big house, the pretty girlfriend and the sports car.

Ooh. I'm impressed. (Note the touch of sarcasm, please.)

Among the bombastic over-the-top headline, the photos of him living his "dream" and the BUY NOW call to action, something else caught my eye.

I noticed that he was using a scarcity tactic, declaring that there were only fourteen (14) units available at the existing price.

As I stayed on the page, the fourteen changed to a thirteen. Oh no! He was selling out right before my very eyes!

I hung around a couple more minutes and the number changed to a twelve. Then an eleven.

If I didn't take action soon, I was going to miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime.

Just for the fun of it, I cleared my browser cookies and reloaded the same page. What do you suppose I found?

Today on Project Grateful I briefly wrote about the rut, and how I am thankful because it can be a catalyst for change.

Failure.

The word is laced with negative connotations.

That's why I think failure gets a bum rap.

Failing at something is not necessarily a bad thing. It just means you are trying. And it means you have found a way to not succeed.

Thomas Edison went through thousands of experiments before his first lightbulb was illuminated.

Ben Franklin is quoted as stating, "I didn't fail the test, I just found one hundred ways to do it wrong"

Sven Goran Eriksson said "The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure."

Many businesspeople, bloggers and entrepreneurs are quick to tout their successes. I made "x" amount of dollars. I sold "x" number of products. I've been recognized by so and so for doing such and such.

There's nothing wrong with celebrating our successes. I like to do it as well.

But I'm also proud to confess that I have had my share of failures.

That's right, you heard me. Everything I touch does NOT turn to gold!

In fact, some things I touch end up far more like tin foil than gold.
