Standards for Ethical Internet Marketing

I recently wrote a few articles that created quite a bit of response from my readers. Where is the Integrity in Internet Marketing? challenged many of the all-too-common tactics used by unscrupulous marketers.

I invited my readers to share their thoughts and experiences related to these issues, and the comments that followed were both insightful and instructional.

Let's face it. When it comes to selling a product or service, marketing approaches are all over the map. Some people uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity while others will say or do absolutely anything to make the sale. That means there is a lot of people that live in the gray area.

As I've analyzed the Internet marketing space, particularly in the realm of information products, I've wanted to draw a picture that is more "black and white", as to what is acceptable and what is not.

To that end, I am now prepared to release my personal list of standards for ethical Internet marketing.

Please note that I am not the final arbiter of what is right, wrong, honest, dishonest, ethical or unethical. I've made my share of mistakes in the past. Sometimes we need to make mistakes in order to get a clearer picture of what is acceptable. Its not the mistakes we make that is most important. It's what we learn from them and how we operate moving forward that matters.

I am issuing the following list as my opinion and would ask that those who agree stand with me in a public manner. For those who disagree, I'm not here to persuade you. I am just one voice. I am drawing a line and publicly stating what is and what is not acceptable from my perspective.
