My, I've discovered the next big thing!
Hey My,
Last week I promised that I would tell you what I've been up to.
There's a really good reason I haven't been blogging much or sending you updates.
It's because for the past year I've been waist-deep in something that I am now fully prepared to share with you.
But before I do, allow me to set the stage. Please bear with me and read this entire message as I believe it will have tremendous impact on you and your business.
Back in 1995, I built a website. I knew the Internet and the web were going to be huge. Turns out I was right.
In 1997, a partner and I built an online multi-player game site. I believed playing games against other people on the internet would be huge. The site was purchased by Yahoo! I was right again.
In 1999, I believed shoppers would want to save money online. I built a coupon bargain site. It became a huge earner for me and now online shopping is common. Right again, Joel.
In 2004, I discovered how to make money with Google AdSense and taught the world how to do likewise. Check.
In 2008, I believed that iPhone apps were going to be a big deal and raced to create my own. After hitting #1 in the world with an app, I think it's safe to say I was right.
It's been 8 years since I have been as excited about a technology as I was with all the previous discoveries I just shared.
But what I have been doing for the past year is so profound and so powerful that I can now say in advance that I am right about this.
I have discovered, tested and mastered "the next big thing."
That thing is live video.
(Re-read that last sentence just a few times and then remember I am a futurist. When I see it and say it, you can count on it.)
You see, I've been doing video online since I uploaded my first video to YouTube in 2006.
But I've been using live video since 2008, when I broadcast The Joel Comm Show live from my office every week. However, at this time live video was in its infancy, and it was complicated for regular people to use.
But something amazing has happened over the last year. There has been a perfect storm of three things:
1) Increased bandwidth that support live video
2) Mass adoption of mobile devices that puts the power of live video in most peoples' hands
3) Easy-to-use applications that empower everyone to use live video
Last March 2015, an app called Meerkat hit the iPhone. I was among the first to broadcast with the app and build an audience that watched as I taught, inspired and entertained.
Shortly thereafter, Periscope launched and was subsequently purchased by Twitter.
Then came Blab.im, a desktop and mobile app that I am calling the most social form of social media in existance.
Soon thereafter, Facebook introduced their own live video solution, Facebook Live.
The world is changing quickly, and live video is being embraced by individuals, brands and businesses around the world.
As predicted, those who understand the power of live video are eager to discover how they can leverage this technology to share their message, build their brand and grow their business.
I have the answers.
And on March 22nd, I'm going to do for live video what I did for Google AdSense. I'm going to show you what I already know. And you aren't going to want to miss it.
In the live video realm, I am including an app called Snapchat. You may think you know what Snapchat is, but I can tell you that it has changed... and it is important.
In preparation for my training that launches March 22nd, I have prepared a short video tutorial on how to use Snapchat. I had the opportunity to sit down with John Lee Dumas, host of the extremely popular Entrepreneur on Fire podcast, and showed him how to use Snapchat.
